Thank You.

We want to give a quick shoutout to everyone that has supported us so far. This is only the beginning but we’ve already had the opportunity to work with some awesome people.

We have been offline for a while but we’ve been working hard to create something that we can be proud of and we want to make sure that DROPOUT can be something that a lot of people can benefit from.

When we first launched in the autumn of 2017, there was still a lot to be learnt. The creative process is trial and error and in 2018 we have really thought about the direction we want to take DROPOUT in.

We are excited for what’s to come, but first we want to thank a few of the people that we worked with last year.

1. Alex Lewis

Alex is a North-London based artist who is always full of ideas and is always a great joy to speak to. He sees his work as an aesthetic visual language in which worlds can be sucked into. As an artist, he hopes that his work can convey time but also be timeless through the use of refined minimal effects. In a period when some see painting to be a thing of the past Alex disagrees, painting will never die as long as it can absorb its surrounding he tells me. Alex reflects on his evolving aims which will see his work change but he will always seek out his goal of producing a pleasing aesthetic which holds themes of its time.

Since leaving university, Alex has been developing his work independently, outside the conditions of an institution. He has really stripped his work back to its essentials and has begun to be very DIY, graphic and geometric. Alex has been showing independently and as part of group shows and has been balancing this with part-time art employment.

After visiting Alex at his home last year, I felt as inspired as ever to continue on with my own projects. We spoke about all sorts of things, such as Alex’s view on the relationship between Protogeometric pottery and sportswear. This is something that I’d never have thought of and for that reason I really value Alex in being someone to bounce ideas off.

2. Anna Brut

Anna Brut is a Russian illustrator who published a book, ‘Unmasked’ which depicts an ironic representation of a theatre audience in Moscow. Aside from Unmasked being a beautiful piece of work, its uniqueness is what really struck a chord with us. The way Anna spoke about her experiences of theatre reminded me of why DROPOUT originally started. The initial aim of DROPOUT was to give a space where people could speak about their passions and Anna does that in some style.

You can check out ‘Unmasked’ and more of Anna’s other work here: https://annabrut.com/Unmasked

3. Lumps

Lumps is a UK independent illustration label featuring subjective designs with a distinctively unique style recognisable to all Lumps fans.

The twisted vision behind the brand is from illustrator Sam Drew whose illustrations provide an escapism through the weird to the grotesque as well as the sublime to the ridiculous. This style has received a huge response among an audience including musicians, skate brands and Record Labels, leading to regular private commissions from around the world.

Shortly after we featured Lumps, Sam launched a Lumps clothing collection. A great example of a young artists putting themselves out there ands getting the rewards.
